WSU Sports By Bob Condotta and Bob Sherwin
Washington State's Marcus Moore, who had 17 points against Stanford, closed out his career with 1,458 points. That's the fifth-most in school history. Moore also moved to fourth in career assists with 423, third in steals with 168, second in assists per game at 4.2, ninth in free throws made at 344 and fifth in three-pointers made with 152. WSU has lost 17 straight to Stanford and is winless in its last 45 games against ranked opponents. Notes
Stanford's 68-47 victory over Washington State was its first victory in the Pac-10 tournament since March 9, 1990, but that's a bit deceiving. The tournament had a four-year run from 1987 to '90, then was revived in 2001. Stanford lost in the first round each of the past two years. Track and field: Sophomore Diana Pickler (Sachse, Texas) will compete in the pentathlon, senior Tim Gehring (Kettle Falls) in the shot put, sophomore Danny Wolf (Reno, Nev.) in the 3,000, and junior Matt Mason (Marietta, Ga.) in the 60 hurdles and long jump at the NCAA indoor championships today and tomorrow. Baseball: The Cougars' eight stolen bases in the fifth inning of the Utah Valley State game tied the NCAA Division I record. The feat has been accomplished twice, in 1993 (Florida International) and in 1991 (Alabama State).
