Northwest Sports Briefing By Seattle Times news services
Outspoken midfielder Andrew Gregor officially joined forces with the enemy. Less than a year after blasting the Vancouver Whitecaps for their lack of talent and physical style, the 28-year-old Gregor spurned offers to return to the Seattle Sounders and signed with the rival Whitecaps yesterday. Gregor, a seventh-year pro, signed a three-year deal, opting to leave the Sounders after playing three of the last four seasons in Seattle. The Whitecaps also signed Carlo Corrazin and Nick Dasovic to long-term contracts the first time in club history that Vancouver gave out multi-year deals. "I'm not expecting it to be a friendly game (with Seattle), but it won't be weird at all," said Gregor, who played two seasons of Major League Soccer. "I've known those guys in Seattle for a long time. (Goalkeeper) Preston (Burpo) already told me he's going to save all my penalty kicks, because he knows where I kick them. I know they'll take a kick at me when they get a chance." Gregor added, "If everything goes according to plan with signings, there's no reason we can't make a run at the championship." Note
The Seattle Pacific women's basketball team is No. 1 in the NCAA Division II West Region poll, and the Western Washington women remain fourth. Other Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams in the top 10 are No. 9 Saint Martin's and No. 10 Central Washington. The WWU men are ranked 10th.
