CRANBROOK, B.C. The Seattle Thunderbirds saw a 3-0 lead dissolve into a 4-3 overtime loss to the Kootenay Ice in Western Hockey League action last night. Tyler Metcalfe put the T-birds on the scoreboard first, at 2:35 of the first period, with his 12th goal of the year. Chris Durand made it 2-0 at 8:31. It was his eighth of the season. Aaron Gagnon put the T-birds up 3-0 at 7:07 of the second period with his eighth goal of the year. Then, Kootenay began to battle its way out of a deep hole. Nigel Dawes put the Ice on the board at 8:39 of the second. He added a second goal, his 26th, at 16:21 of the period. Adam Taylor gave Kootenay a 3-3 tie with a score at 2:11 of the third period. T-birds goaltender Bryan Bridges, who had 18 saves in the game, held off the Ice for the remainder of regulation. Jeff Glass registered 34 saves for the Ice. Kootenay's Martin Sagat ended the suspense quickly in overtime, scoring the winning goal at 1:03. Seattle is 7-16-6-1, fifth in the U.S. Division. Kootenay is 15-13-1-3, fourth in the B.C. Division.
