Play of the game: Charles Frederick's 86-yard punt return in the first quarter put the Huskies ahead for good and also fired up a team that had been lifeless the previous two weeks. The play also began a record-setting night for Frederick.

Star of the game: Frederick finished with 371 all-purpose yards, breaking Hugh McElhenny's 53-year-old school record. He scored three touchdowns and had two 80-yard-plus plays.

Turning point: The Huskies held Oregon State to a field goal after a Richard Seigler interception put the Beavers at the UW 14-yard line, keeping Washington ahead, 14-10.

Husky lowlight: Rich Alexis suffered a thigh bruise in the second quarter that forced him out for the rest of the game.

Key stat: UW lost one turnover and gained four. UW came into the game last in the Pac-10 in turnover margin.

Key injuries: RB Rich Alexis (deep thigh bruise, possible torn quadriceps) could be out for some time; FB Zach Tuiasosopo (ankle) returned to the game.

Next up: Saturday vs. USC, 12:30 p.m., Husky Stadium (Ch. 4).
