The season nears (Wednesday links)

* * *

Not that you need anything to get you amped up for the upcoming season, but here's the latest MLS promo from the NBC Sports Network. While it does feature a singing Timbers Army in the background, there's a fair amount of Sounders involvement, as well.

Here are some other links:

--- Could Orlando be the next city to receive an MLS franchise? The league website says commissioner Don Garber will travel to Orlando on March 1 for "exploratory meetings" about possible expansion.

--- Here are some other interesting stories from the MLSsoccer: Colorado confirms it had interest in Eddie Johnson, but couldn't match Seattle's offer. Over in Montreal, coach Jesse Marsch said he's been targeting Mike Fucito for several months.

--- UW men's soccer coach Jamie Clark chatted with Top Drawer Soccer the other day. Among other things, he reiterated his excitement over Sounders FC Academy product and former camp invitee Darwin Jones.

--- Zakuani is impressing his coach with his toughness. Not here in Seattle though. This is Steve's older brother, Gabriel, with Peterborough United in England. He's playing with a broken toe.

--- A soccer player has added himself to the list of embarrassing sports injuries by running himself over. Kasey Keller is mentioned as another in this story.

--- Kris Boyd was introduced by the Timbers on Tuesday and here's some video of that press conference. Here's the latest on the San Jose Earthquakes stadium efforts. The Union signed five players on Tuesday and announced a new deal with Sheanon Williams earlier today. Lastly, 38-year-old veteran forward Eduardo Sebrango signed with Montreal.

--- More bad news for U.S. national team defender Oguchi Onyewu. He suffered a knee injury that will require surgery and likely keep him out for two months.

--- Finally, India's Premier League Soccer, which was going to boast a lot of well-known names, has had to postpone the start of its season.
