Removal of old turf at CenturyLink Field has begun

The removal of the existing FieldTurf at CenturyLink Field started today and everything regarding the installation of new turf appears to be on schedule. I'm told that the anticipated completion of the project is the final week of February.

That's important because while the Sounders' season opener is March 7 against Mexico's Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champions League, team officials have indicated they're trying to schedule a home friendly before then.

Some people have asked what's going to be done with the old turf and I'm told the plans are to recycle/re-use it.

Details of the installation, which feature a new Revolution system/fiber, were announced back in November. Here's the press release, which explains it better than I can.
