Zakuani tells ExtraTime Radio he's aiming for a summer return

zakuani mug.jpgSounders FC midfielder Steve Zakuani was on ExtraTime Radio this afternoon, an interview you can listen to in full at MLSsoccer.com. One bit that caught my ear was when he was asked about not having a timeline for a return to game action.

Here was Zakuani's response:

"I'm pretty confident I will return this season. When that will be? I don't know. In my mind I've definitely stayed away from giving a timeline and saying, 'It's going to be this day and that day,' just because I've wanted to go week by week, month by month. Right now we're in January. March might be a bit too soon. But if you're talking late May, early June, do I think I'll be able to play? I think I'll be very close, if not ready, by that time, just because of the way it's gone.

"(I'm) definitely making progress and getting to that last final hurdle, which can be the hardest part because you're now just fine-tuning some of the smallest things. Obviously it's a high level to get back into an actual game. It's a different proposition to just training or running on a treadmill. I'll get there, but I think I'm aiming for like the summer, sometime in the summer, and we'll see how that goes. But yeah, I'll be back at some point I'm sure."
