MLS All-Star Game set for July 25 at 5 p.m. at Philadelphia's PPL Park
The location had previously been reported, but now more details are available. The 2012 MLS All-Star Game will take place at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., at 5 p.m. on July 25. The exhibition will be broadcast on ESPN2.
The date will clash with the Olympics, so names like David Beckham and Brek Shea probably won't be available.
The format will stay the same -- MLS All-Stars vs. big name foreign club. Sounds like an opponent will be announced in a couple months.
Majority owner Joe Roth was out at practice today and he was asked if he had interest in bringing a future MLS All-Star Game to Seattle. Here's his answer:
"I think it helps the teams that can use the help -- although Philly's doing quite well. And I think that the fan base here has shown us -- whether it's exhibitions or all-star games - they'd rather see us play in competition. We're here for the fans, so I'd rather do it that way.
"It doesn't really serve us to go out there and say, 'Gee, we should play the championship game here.' And now of course, finally after a few years, they're going to play the (MLS Cup at the home stadium of) the team that actually played the best during the season, which I've been griping about for three years -- so I'm happy about that."

--- There will be a USWNT viewing party tonight at the Market Arms Pub in Ballard, hosted by America SCORES Seattle. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested and there will be prize drawings for Sounders FC and USWNT memorabilia.
--- There's a new competition in town. Local PDL teams have introduced the Ruffneck Cup, which is similar to the Cascadia Cup, and will be won based on head-to-head competition among the Kitsap Pumas (Bremerton), Tacoma Tide FC (South Sound), the North Sound SeaWolves (Edmonds) and Washington Crossfire (Redmond).
--- In case you've missed it, here's my profile on new Sounders goalkeeper Michael Gspurning.
--- And, lastly, a story on former UW Husky and Camas native Brent Richards, who signed with the Portland Timbers as a homegrown player.
