The wait is over: Mauro Rosales' new contract is official

Posted by Joshua Mayers

rosales mug.jpgAs the wait for a new contract for Mauro Rosales turned to weeks and then months, Sounders FC fans' worry grew.

Well, the wait is over.

The team announced a two-year contract with the star midfielder before a business meeting with season-ticket holders Tuesday night. Terms of the deal were not announced, per league and team policy, but it is believed the salary would quality Rosales for a designated player status.

The Sounders could still in theory then buy down the salary and save the DP spot before the season starts.

"We were always very confident of reaching an agreement," said general manager Adrian Hanauer in a news release. "There was a great deal of trust between ourselves and Mauro and (his agent) Dario Sala. They put their faith in us and we wanted to take care of Mauro. He has earned this contract through his outstanding play, his dedication to his craft and his commitment to this club, his fellow players and our coaches."

Rosales, 30, set a new team record with 13 assists last season. He also scored five goals as he emerged as an MVP candidate in a breakout first year with the Sounders. The Argentine was a clear choice for MLS Newcomer of the Year.

"Mauro was a huge impact on our team last year," said coach Sigi Schmid in the release. "He played well and made others better with his service and use of the ball. We are pleased to have him back as a Sounder."

Finally I can said that I will be a sounder for a long time ,Cant wait to see everybody again in Clink field! Thanks for everything Ssfc!

Mauro saved the Sounders season last year. We were not doing that well until he arrived. Great Move by the Sounders to keep and reward him....  Posted on December 14, 2011 at 9:03 AM by 1boarder. Jump to comment
