Mauro Rosales ruled out of Wednesday's game
Posted by Joshua Mayers
Outside chance has been downgraded to no chance.
Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid ruled injured midfielder Mauro Rosales out of Wednesday's 7 p.m. home leg of a Western Conference semifinal against Real Salt Lake.
Rosales suffered a sprained knee on a tackle by Chivas USA's Ben Zemanski in the regular-season finale on Oct. 22. Seattle had hoped there would be an outside chance of him being available.
"It's a situation where Mauro's tried his best in terms of being able to come back," Schmid said after Tuesday's practice. "He's much further along at the same time-point of recovery from the injury as he was when he had the injury against D.C. United. Obviously there's optimism as we move forward that there's a chance for Sunday as we go forward from there. For this Wednesday's game, no."
If you remember, earlier in the playoffs FOX Soccer analyst Jimmy Conrad -- a former player under Schmid -- accused the coach of a little gamesmanship regarding the Rosales injury. Conrad thought Schmid knew all along that Rosales wasn't going to play.
In that context, Schmid had some other tongue-in-cheek comments today.
"I don't want Jimmy Conrad to accuse me of gamesmanship again," the coach said, "since obviously he's become very intellectual since they put him on TV. ... Love you Jimmy, I'll add that, too."
