Rosales "iffy" for Saturday after MRI reveals MCL injury
Posted by Joshua Mayers
After fearing for the worst when Mauro Rosales went down with a knee injury last Saturday, preliminary indications appeared to be positive. News took a turn for the worse after Monday's MRI results were revealed after practice today.
"The MRI showed that he re-injured the MCL a little bit," said coach Sigi Schmid, "so we want him to lay low for sure these next few days and then we'll take it day by day after that. Again, we've got to let it calm down and then we can see how it proceeds from there. For this weekend it's probably iffy. For Wednesday, we'll see."
Rosales warmed up with head trainer Randy Noteboom at the start of practice and walked/jogged around the field several times. He then iced his knee for a while and went inside.
Schmid was asked if there's a different approach is getting a guy back in the playoffs, compared to the regular season.
"Definitely," he said. "When it's in the regular season, you're saying you don't want this to be something that lingers and carries and carries and carries. When you know you're at a stage where you have a maximum of four games, at some point you get to the point where it's not going to linger beyond these games, so if we can get something, let's get something. It's a decision we'll have to come to. The long-term health of the player is also at stake, but Mauro's a competitor. You saw when he came in the San Jose game, he only knows how to play one way and that's full-out, hard. When he comes back out there, that's how he'll play."
