Manchester United will play MLS all-stars -- Sounders FC too?

Posted by Joshua Mayers

2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game.jpgUPDATE: 12:24 a.m. -- On the Sounders FC team website, a July 20 friendly is listed against Manchester United. See for yourself.

MLS announced Monday morning (really early morning, like 6 a.m. PT) that Manchester United will be the league's opponent in the July 27 all-star game at Red Bull Arena. Last year, Sir Alex Ferguson's club beat the MLS all-stars 5-2 in Houston -- leaving a few people out there curious why the league scheduled the same opponent twice.

This news isn't a huge surprise to those who remember this EPL Talk report, which previously reported the match-up and also said the Red Devils will be coming to Seattle for Sounders FC's lone friendly of 2011 either July 20 or 21.

That prospective game at Qwest Field could be officially announced Tuesday morning with the rest of Manchester United's 2011 North American tour at a media event at Red Bull Arena. Ferguson will be in attendance.

Could it be? Could the long-awaited friendly finally come?
