The curious case of the MLS Goal of the Week award

Posted by Joshua Mayers

montero gotw.jpgUPDATE 12:36 a.m.: While I saw this image on my Twitter feed, I've come to understand the screen grab actually came via an investigation into the issue by MLS-Rumors.net. I certainly didn't intend to grab some of their work unattributed, so apologies for that.

Having said that, be sure to follow the link. The guys over there delved into some interesting stuff, like how computer-savvy folk found a way to vote after the poll was supposedly closed.

Some Sounders FC fans are a bit perturbed and confused as to how New York's Dane Richards was leading the MLS Goal of the Week voting this afternoon -- up 47.8% to Fredy Montero's 46.71%. Especially when someone gathered a screenshot last night (as seen above) that had Montero in the lead when the poll was apparently closed.

Seems like a superfluous award that's just for fun, so it's not that big of a deal. Just curious is all.
