FINAL: Seattle Sounders FC 1, L.A. Galaxy 3, game thread
Posted by Joshua Mayers
Final: This one's all over. A 3-1 win for L.A. More to come.
77': GOAL LA. A dangerous cross by the Galaxy is knocked into his own goal by James Riley. It's 3-1 Galaxy.
66': GOAL SEATTLE! Steve Zakuani takes a pass from Fredy Montero and darts through the L.A. backline then finishes to the far post. It's 2-1 Galaxy.
51': Michael Seamon on. Peter Vagenas off.
48': GOAL LA! Juninho, the Brazilian midfielder, with a phenomenal, shake-your-head strike from the heavens in the upper 90. Galaxy lead 2-0. Tip your cap to the young man.
46': Jaqua on for Noonan, like I figured. We'll see in the field was tilted soon, because the ball was certainly on one side nearly the whole time.
Halftime: Jaqua doesn't even go to locker room at the break. He's warming up for an apparent 46th-minute substitution.
Seamon warming up as well. Which center midfielder has been worse?
Halftime: FYI, updates will be limited in the second half. Very tight deadline.
Help me out in the comments section, if you can.
Halftime: Sounders very lucky to be down just one goal at the break. The first 25-30 minutes were brutal, with nearly a chance every minute for the hosts.
I think Jaqua has to come in for Noonan. I can see Zakuani maybe getting pulled too, maybe for Montano around the 70' mark.
44': Best buildup by Seattle of the night results in a weak shot by Ianni. Looked like Ljungberg was open on the right and Leo on the left.
41': Buddle goes down awkwardly. This could be serious... But he's up on the endline. Maybe he rolled his ankle.
39': Ianni and Juninho collide. It's a foul on the Sounders, but both players stay down holding their heads.
38': Noonan another whiff in the box. Didn't see who had the throw-in, but it set the forward up well.
36': Parke and Buddle jousting physically and verbally. Things have settled down though.
32': Whiff. Zakuani sets up the forward in front of the goal, but the forward can't connect. Montero had a shot blocked in there as well. First action in the L.A. box tonight. Seattle just one moment from equalizing still.
30: Trying to find someone in green that's played well today. Frustrations appear to be at a boil.
24': Sounders are 0-6-1 when allowing the first goal of the game. Rave green still under siege.
19': GOAL LA. Landon Donovan swings in a perfect corner kick and Edson Buddle with an even more perfect header to the far post. World Cup duo gives the Galaxy a 1-0 lead.
18': SAVE! Keller with a phenomenal sprawling effort to stop a long-range effort from Birchall, which might've taken a deflection.
Keller has trouble with the ensuing corner kick, Seattle clears it for another though.
15': Seems like L.A. has had about 10 dangerous chances already. Seattle? Maybe 0.5.
13': Sounders will need to do well on their counterattacking chances when they get them. Not able to hold onto the ball at all.
11': Buddle springs Donovan on a breakaway! Somehow Leo gets back in time to stop him. Landon hesitated there.
Birchall fires a dangerous shot over the goal on the ensuing corner kick.
10': Seattle hoping to weather an early storm.
7': Saving tackle by Riley there. Donovan would've been on goal.
Moments later Marshall with a big stop on Buddle. L.A. looks very sharp.
5': Galaxy definitely on the front foot. Already have a shot on goal, a dangerous free kick, a corner kick, another shot taken. Seattle lucky to be even already?
2': POST! L.A. rookie Michael Stephens with a great shot to the far post. Too close to the far post, however, as it bounces off the frame back to Keller on the ground. Very near miss there.
1': And we're off. Sounders expected to be in the same 4-4-2 formation of late.
-----------------Keller-----------------
Riley--Parke--Marshall--Gonzalez
----------------Ianni--------------------
Ljungberg----Vagenas----Zakuani
---------Noonan--Montero-----------
Pregame: Keller and Donovan at midfield for the coin toss. Marshall and Vagenas got some extra love in the pregame handshakes from their ex-teammates.
Pregame: Sounders in the green-green-blue uniform combination. One they've worn regularly on the road this season. Galaxy in all-white.
Pregame: Landon Donovan, who got a big cheer from the crowd, and Edson Buddle are each starting for the hosts. Nate Jaqua isn't for Seattle, but is in the bench. We'll see how those moves work out.
Pregame: I've updated the starting lineups below. We're about 30 minutes from kickoff. Should be a pretty big crowd here, we'll see if the game lives up to the hype.
