Kitsap takes on Portland in the USOC on Tuesday night
Posted by Joshua Mayers
I know several people headed across the sound to take in this U.S. Open Cup second-round match tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The winner hosts the defending champion Sounders FC in the third round next week.
Here's an advance on the match via Pumas' release:

Pumas to take on Timbers tomorrow night in US Open Cup second-round action
BREMERTON, Wash. -- The Kitsap Pumas will look to make history -- and earn bragging rights over a big rival -- when the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup continues tomorrow night in Bremerton.
Kitsap hosts the Portland Timbers of the United Soccer Leagues First Division in the second round of the Open Cup at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bremerton Memorial Stadium. A win would propel the Pumas into the third round for the first time in club history -- and set up a match with the defending Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer.
"We're all biting at the bit," said Kitsap forward Tye Perdido, who scored once in his club's 4-1victory Saturday over the Spokane Spiders. "We want to step on our home field and put on a good show. We're definitely going to come out playing hard."
For Kitsap, this might be the most highly anticipated match in the club's brief history.
Not only did the Timbers defeat the Pumas in the first round of last year's tournament, 3-0, but the clubs squared off in a friendly during the 2010 pre-season. Kitsap won that match 3-2.
The 2009 Open Cup game attracted more than 2,200 fans to Memorial Stadium on an evening when the play was more competitive than the scoreboard indicated. The popular "Timbers Army" traveled from Oregon in full force and the Pumas' most loyal supporters -- "The Hellcats" -- also came out in droves.
A year later, the Pumas are off to an 7-1-0 start in league play and are aiming for a second-consecutive division title. The Timbers, meanwhile, will move up to MLS in 2011.
By the numbers: The Pumas have outscored their opponents 22-6 in eight Premier Development League matches and defeated the Bay Area Ambassadors 4-2 last week to advance in the Cup ... Portland moved into the second round thanks to a 3-0 victory over the Sonoma County Sol of the U.S. Adult Soccer Association on June 15 ... The Timbers (4-5-4) are 6-6-0 all-time in the U.S. Open Cup, reaching the fourth round in 2004 and 2005. This is their seventh appearance since 2001.
The winner of Tuesday's match will play the Sounders on June 30 in the home stadium of winner of tomorrow night's match.
Tickets to the Open Cup are still available, as are tickets to all regular-season matches. Please visit www.brownpapertickets.com or contact club headquarters, (360) 377-6008.
