A stop and chat with Nate Jaqua (interview transcript)

Posted by Joshua Mayers

NOTE: This was during training as Jaqua was leaving early. Clearly not training in full as yet.

* * *

(Last week the talk was maybe being able to play this week. Is that still the case?) "I'm still not full out in training, obviously. So I don't know. I'm still hopeful. I have to get in 100% of training before that's even an option. (There's) still that last little bit. I'm about 95% and getting to 100% and being able to do everything full out with no pain and no real obstruction is where I need to get. I'm not quite there, but I'm confident it's going to happen very soon."

(So nothing like a setback?) "No."

(Is there a fear of being hit, in terms of a setback?) "The fear of being hit, I don't mind that at all. There's just a few movements that I do, if I'm doing them at 100% and someone's coming and I really need to cut away from them quick, my groin on my right side isn't quite where it needs to be. It's almost there."

(Getting more anxious?) "Yeah, I'm getting really anxious. It's getting even tougher because I'm (close) and I'm just not quite there. But I'm almost. I'm hoping. Hoping if it's not the end of this week, then next week for sure."

(On fitting into formation) "I haven't really thought about that at all. It's more about trying to get 100% healthy and get playing at 100% and playing well. Then I'll worry about that."

(On training staff getting you into good condition) "I think it's good, because right now I'm able to do all the running and stuff at 100%. I think as soon I get the other stuff and playing with ball at 100%, I think I'll be right there from being game fit."

(Tougher being out as the team is without a true target man?) "Yeah, obviously you want to be in the game and helping out. But I think we did well this last weekend. Sometimes you're going to have times in the season where we're not doing well offensively or not doing great defensively. Getting the win last weekend was big and getting the win this weekend I think we'll be in a very good spot."

(So next week at 100%?) "Yeah. I'm hoping."
