General manager Adrian Hanauer talks about the new kit

Posted by Joshua Mayers

(Portion of opening statement to crowd.)

"This is not gray or white. This is a bold statement, which I think most people familiar with the club would say we are prone to do. We definitely don't like to do things in a conservative or conventional manner. So this is another example for us where we've sort of pushed the envelope - done something that we think is bold. Some people may hate it. Some people will love it. But for sure people will notice it."

(Opening statement to media.)

"For us it's exciting. It's something new. We've obviously sold a lot of rave green jerseys. We've sold a lot of the blue. It's another merchandising opportunity. It's another opportunity to make a statement about our brand. It'll be great. We'll use them, not exclusively, but largely in the friendlies, potentially in the Open Cup or Champions League. And you know I wouldn't put it past Sigi to mix it into a league game potentially if he feels like there's a possibility in getting points by putting a different color jersey on."

(When could the new kit debut?)

"I would imagine that they will make their debut in one of our friendlies, in which I'm evasively not going to be able to announce. But hopefully in the very near future we will be able to announce."

(Who was involved in this decision?)

"Adidas. The league. Our club. We definitely didn't go to the players and say 'Do you mind if we do a third kit?' I think they're generally happy to have another option and they don't get too hung up on the kits. But when we heard about it as an opportunity, we jumped on it."

(Will you cycle third kit or is this a permanent look?)

"I think it'll cycle. It'll have its lifespan. I actually don't know what that lifespan will be."

(Any thoughts about if this would damage the rave green?)

"No there wasn't. We like the tie-in with the rave green in the kit. You could play with the rave-green shorts. I think everyone knows we're a rave-green team. Add a little palette. Add a little fun. I know my girlfriend loves the color and will be wearing it so at least we've made at least one woman happy with the color. No concern at all."

(Is this for CCL or something you'd planned all along?)

"No we'd planned on it. And if I'm not mistaken, I think Columbus only has two kits, and they're playing in Champions League. So it's exciting that maybe we can pull it out for that (CCL) but it wasn't part of the equation."
