So long to Starfire, y adios y buena suerte a Sounders FC
Posted by Jose Romero
Today was of course a very special day for me as the days count down to when I leave Seattle. I got a chance to say goodbye to the coaches and GM Adrian Hanauer, and some of the players also wished me well after what was my last practice covering the team.
Obviously the guys had different schedules and other commitments and I didn't get a chance to see all of them, but I got to interpret for Fredy Montero and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado (smart of them to take advantage of my Spanish/English!), and James Riley, Patrick Ianni, Kasey Keller, Lamar Neagle, Brad Evans, Taylor Graham and Steve Zakuani stopped by to say thanks and good luck.
Sat down with Brian Schmetzer, Tom Dutra, Ezra Hendrickson, Hanauer, Sigi Schmid, Chris Henderson, team administrator Grant Clark, Web site insider Matt Gaschk and media relations director Frank MacDonald. We had a few laughs.
By the way, Tyrone Marshall, it appears, will either join the team in Arizona or get to stay in Jamaica for bit longer. He was not at practice today.
I also said goodbye to some of my colleagues today, guys like Jaime Mendez from Univision, Andrew Winner from MLSnet.com and Don Ruiz from the Tacoma News Tribune. Good people who are good at what they do.
Can't tell you how much fun being around this team has been, but I'm sure I will one last time before I get behind the wheel and begin the long trip to the Southwest.
So many great people with and around the organization and it was a pleasure and a privilege to do this job. Going to miss it... a lot.
