Schmid: 28-30 guys competing for 24 spots

Posted by Jose Romero

That's the roster he's referring to. Schmid said tonight that he'd like players to get stronger and for the team to become a little more balanced.

"We didn't have enough balance on the outside last year," Schmid said. "That's going to be a competition that we're going to have as we enter the early weeks of camp. If we make an addition, it's because we think we're making ourselves better."

Schmid said he feels good about Fredy Montero and Freddie Ljungberg coming back.

As for last year's draft class - specifically Michael Fucito - Schmid said this year's camp is his big chance and that the experience of being around the team last year should be an advantage for Fucito and Lamar Neagle and other young players fighting for a spot.
