Getting down to Sounders FC biz -- expansion draft lists due tomorrow

Totally forgot, but Nick Rimando was voted game MVP. I voted for Russell. Also, I get the impression that Seattle will get the MLS All-Star Game before it gets another MLS Cup, but the impression left by the city and the fans on the league reps was very very good, certainly enough, it seems, to warrant a return here. Then again, as commissioner Don Garber said, by next year there could no longer be neutral sites like this one this year, and Qwest could host the game is Seattle gets there.

As I make ready to sign off for the night, I saved the last post for a little talk I had with Tyrone Marshall after the game. Tomorrow Sounders FC is supposed to submit to the league, by noon, its list of 11 protected players that cannot be chosen by the expansion Philadelphia Union. There could be a trade in the hours before that list is revealed. The Union must have its picks in by Wednesday sometime.

Anway, here's the 11 I predict will be protected, plus Freddie Ljungberg:

Montero
Alonso
Gonzalez
Evans
Keller
Hurtado
Riley
Zakuani
Marshall
Ianni
Le Toux

Nate Jaqua is the big question mark, and to a lesser extent Levesque though I wouldn't be surprised to see them protected. Both big contributors this year but Seattle might risk leaving them open in hopes of landing a more physical forward. Protected or not, I think the team wants to keep as much intact as it can.

Here's what Marhsall said when I spoke to him. He said he wants to get stronger and will be staying in the area to work out in the offseason.

"I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon," he said. Marshall did get injured at the end of the season but I think he had a good enough season to warrant a return to the club.

Marshall said he thinks he deserves the opportunity to be back with the club. He hopes to be on the protected list.

"I think my status is fine for next year," he said. "I spoke to the coach and the coach told me that everything is good. I thought I had a pretty good year this year and just have to make sure I maintain it and see how long the old guy can go."

Marshall would like to see everyone back next season, "and we should be good to go," he said.
