Who is Luis Angel Landin?

Posted by Jose Romero

He's the Dynamo's designated player, a big (6-1) forward from Mexico who is only 24.

The guy can play, but it looks like the Dynamo is trying to ease him into the lineup. He'll probably figure more prominently in 2010, but for now Landin (pronounced "Lahn-deen") has played in 8 game including the playoffs with 5 starts. He debuted vs. Seattle on Aug. 23, I was there, and I remember they were selling jerseys of this guy and unless you watch a lot of soccer and follow the Mexican Primera Division, you really wouldn't know him though he has played for El Tri.

Landin left in the first half of the Dynamo's regular-season finale with a knee injury, but came on as a sub a few days later in Game 1 of Seattle series. I would imagine he'll play more Sunday, but he won't replace Ching up top and Oduro had a good game against Sounders FC so I'd be surprised if Landin started in his place.

Landin is on loan through the 2010 season. He has one goal for Houston, and scored it vs. KC on Oct. 4 with the Dynamo at a man disadvantage. His father was at the game, and Landin did a back flip in his honor.

More on him here. Having Landin just goes to show how deep the Dynamo is with talent.
