Sigi Schmid on KJR
Posted by Jose Romero
The Sounders FC coach just appeared on Softy's show on KJR...they bumped me to tomorrow....and said that it was important that the team got off to a good start to the season. That helped the players get the confidence that the team could get to the playoffs.
Then he was asked about the approach to the aggreggate goal situation. Schmid reiterated that tonight's game is like a first half and that you don't want to go for the jugular.
"We're going to play solid defense and score as many goals as we can," Schmid said.
Schmid thinks Steve Zakuani is a guy who can pose real problems for Houston, and said Brad Evans and Osvaldo Alonso are rounding into form and could be the surprise guys on the score sheet.
So if anyone found an area that was scarved and got one, please share. Wondering if the rain last night affected the plan to scarf certain neighborhoods. Maybe I just went to the wrong part of Green Lake.
Mayor Greg Nickels has proclaimed today "Sounders FC Day" in Seattle. He asks fans and citizens to raise their scarves along with him.
Last thing. MLS has fined Kevin Payne, president of D.C. United. Payne, you recall, was at the forefront of the "We Win Trophies" campaign before the U.S.. Open Cup. This is from the league.
NEW YORK (Oct. 29, 2009) - Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber today fined D.C. United President Kevin Payne $5,000 for public comments deemed detrimental to the public image of the League.
Payne's comments regarding the League and specific MLS clubs appeared on Oct. 27 in the Washington Post's Soccer Insider online.
Here's Steven Goff's blog with background on what Payne said.
