Sigi Schmid quotes, 10-27-09

Posted by Jose Romero

On veteran leadership in playoffs: "It's a situation of you've got some guys who know what it takes and they know the effort they have got to put in and how they have to perform. By how they act and how they go about their business, they show the young guys what they need to do. It's a game like any other game so that's the way we are approaching it. We have got to make sure we're healthy and we are healthy."

On Kasey Keller: "His ankle is just a little bit sore so we sent him in early. That was his situation today."

On coaching an expansion team in playoffs: "For us, it's always going to be just a little more difficult because we don't have the history to lean on. We don't have the combined experiences as a group. Even though individually some guys have had successes and won MLS Cups on their old teams and doing it in different ways or in Europe and so forth. But as a group we have not had that experience. When you have that experience as a group it makes you a little bit stronger, you can lean on that. As an expansion team you just have to get over that. It's also the strength of character of individuals that will carry you through."

On winning the U.S. Open Cup: "The Open Cup is very large for us because it is a playoff type of situation. When you have a semifinal game and you have a final game and it is win or go home, those are playoff type games. So having gone through that experience is important for us as a group."

On health of Sounders FC: "Health-wise we're good. We have 23 players that are all training right now. We've got 3 goalkeepers and only one of those isn't training. So out of 26 players we have 25 players training which is good."
