Today's soccer roundup - and Seba gets a lesson

Posted by Jose Romero

Landon Donovan has been named Honda Player of the Year for U.S. Soccer, and since its his sixth time winning, he is also Player of the Decade.

Here is what I received in my email today in between catnaps:

LOS ANGELES (October 20, 2009) - U.S. National Team forward Landon
Donovan, made history today by winning the 2009 Honda Player of the
Year Award, thus becoming the only six time winner of the most coveted
prize in U.S. Soccer. For the last 19 years, the award has honored the
best player on the U.S. National Soccer Team as chosen by the American
sports media. Having earned six out of nine awards during the 2000s,
Donovan became the Honda Player of the Decade.

This year, 221 journalists across the nation selected Donovan as the
recipient of the most prestigious honor given to an American soccer
player, awarding him a total of 424 points. Gaolkeeper Tim Howard (age
30), finished second with 267 points and forward Jozy Altidore (age
19) placed third with 175 points. A player receives three points for
each first-place vote, two points for each second-place vote, and one
point for each third-place vote. In order to be eligible for the Honda
Player of the Year Award, a player must play in a minimum of three (3)
games for the U.S. National Team during the calendar year.

Donovan was given a new car, a Honda Insight.

Chad Ochocinco (NFL's Cincinnati Bengals) received a D.C. United jersey from the team and shows a photo of it on his Twitter page. Ochocinco grew up playing soccer.

And finally, Jason Simms from a Web site called "English, baby" based out of Portland sent along this fun video with Sounders FC's Sebastien Le Toux. The site helps people around the world have fun while learning English.

Here's the lesson with Seba, followed by the video.
