Sigi Schmid approaching MLS record win total for coaches
Posted by Jose Romero
This from the team:
Seattle's Sigi Schmid is one career win away from tying Bob Bradley's MLS record total of 124. Schmid is the career leader with 284 games coached, having surpassed Bradley (272) earlier this season. Schmid has 123 wins. New England's Steve Nicol is No. 2 among active coaches (97) and No. 3 overall.
Here's what the coach had to say about that possibility:
"It just means I've been around for a while and that I'm older," Schmid said, not trying to call much attention to the milestone. "I've always said the one that I like and the one that's important to me is the playoff wins. I know I lead in that and that's something I'd like to continue to expand upon and grow upon...it would be a nice accomplishment [passing Bradley] and I'll be proud of it, for sure, but it just means that I've been here for a while."
Schmid reflected on his many years in the sport.
"When I look back at soccer and like I say to friends sometimes, I think over the last 25 years of my life I've made my income primarily from soccer. It's not something that I would have believed when I was coming out of college, and that's something I'm for sure happy about."
Power6: Montero was actually nodding his head to the beats!
No practice for the team tomorrow, they are back at it Thursday.
Personal note: Probably not much from the blog the next couple of days, have to go out of town to attend to some personal business.
