Sounders FC practice, 9-16-09
Posted by Jose Romero
Feliz dia de independencia en Mexico!
Yup, today is basically like Mexico's 4th of July, don't be fooled into thinking that Cinco de Mayo is the equivalent.
Anyway, it was a chill day at practice. Spoke briefly with Taylor Graham, who said he's coming back slowly from a tendon problem in the same foot in which he broke a bone earlier this season. It's clear that this year has been very frustrating for Graham, who has had to actually change the way he walks so he doesn't favor his good foot so much.
"I've changed where I put pressure when I walk. It's just adding extra stress in different places that normally wouldn't be the case," Graham said, adding that he's hoping he'll be back sooner than later. "The doctor said my timetable is geared specifically toward my symptoms."
I've been asked to remind folks that Saturday's match is at noon, and that the traditional March to the Match will include the U.S. Open Cup beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Occidental Park.
Coach Sigi Schmid talked about Chivas USA GK Zach Thornton, whom he coached in 1995 before the PanAm games and in the PanAm games.
"We haven't scored a goal yet against Chivas and that's something we need to change," Schmid said. Thornton has been bothered by a right quadcriceps strain recently, an injury he originally suffered in the MLS All-Star Game.
