Sounders FC practice, 8-13-09
Posted by Jose Romero
I asked GM Adrian Hanauer about the report of Fredy Montero's rights now belonging to MLS.
He said the team didn't comment on the specifics of a player contract and wouldn't confirm or deny the reports of the deal being done.
But Hanauer did say that the two Deportivo Cali executives, Rodrigo Otoya and Cesar Caicedo, did come to Seattle to talk about Montero and Hurtado and attended the FC Barcelona game. The meetings went well enough, I surmised from our conversation, that Sounders FC and Deportivo Cali are beginning to build a bond.
Hanauer said Cali has a good youth development system. Maybe a strong relationship could establish a pipeline of Cali players to Seattle, ala Montero and Hurtado.
In other news today, defender Taylor Graham has been removed from injured reserve and is eligible to play in league games. With Hurtado unavailable this week, I could see Graham being in the 18 active Saturday.
-Looks like the Brad Evans experiment at defender is over.
-Sebastien Le Toux and Stephen King both took part in practice. They are getting over injuries.
I shot some video today. This is Mike Fucito, King and Lamar Neagie in the fluorescent green, Roger Levesque and trialist Danny Mwanga in orange working with Brian Schmetzer, with Ben Dragavon in goal.
