A tip of the cap to Sounders FC's Brad Evans

Something I wrote for the newspaper that will be cut out because of space issues:

Brad Evans is glad to be back with his teammates in Seattle, but the midfielder also has plenty of good memories and friendships from the better part of the past month as a member of the U.S. national team that was runner-up in the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament.
Evans played close to 120 minutes combined in the national team's six matches and wishes he could have played more, but wasn't expecting much in his first go-round as a national team member.
Playing at his home stadium, Qwest Field, and getting his first cap [national team appearance] is one of Evans' best memories of his Gold Cup experience. Now it's back to work with his MLS team, and Evans feels more prepared after making it through national team coach Bob Bradley's rigorous sessions.
"There, it's all business. It's no nonsense," Evans said. "Not to say that practices [with Sounders FC] are any less intense, but the guys are really, really fighting for positions and a spot for the national team. But overall it's great to be back here and back in the mix."
Evans got a few souvenirs of his time, including a couple of jerseys, one which he plans to put in a frame and another for his parents. He thought Qwest Field was loud until he stepped on the pitch at Giants Stadium in New Jersey for the Gold Cup final with Mexico last Sunday.
"That was insane. I've never been in a place louder than that, for sure," Evans said. "Qwest is loud, but with 75,000 Mexican fans, literally standing here you wouldn't hear my voice."
