Hanauer on U.S. Soccer choosing D.C. over Seattle for Open Cup final

Posted by Jose Romero

The U.S. Soccer Federation accepted D.C. United's bid over Sounders FC's for the U.S. Open Cup final before the semifinals were played.

Many in this area were confused as to why D.C. got the championship game over Seattle, especially since attendance here is the best in MLS and games at Starfire were big successes, too. So was the game in Portland involving Sounders FC, for that matter.

I can't speculate as to why Seattle was snubbed, but here's Sounders FC GM Adrian Hanauer's take:

"U.S. Soccer had a chance to raise the profile of the tournament," he said. "We would have sold out Qwest Field."

I'm inclined to agree. A lot of you probably are, too.
