Sounders FC-Wizards game thread
Posted by Jose Romero
Sounders in rave green (wear the blues one of these days PLEASSSSE?) and Wiz (Wizards) in white with blue trim.
Pretty full house and the fans are into it. No surprise either way.
3rd -- Montero with a shot, wide.
4th -- Zakuani makes a great run up the middle, taken down. No call.
11 -- Zakuani with the stepover dribble and feeds Jaqua who can't finish. Corner kick. Zakuani is breaking ankles out there.
12 -- Dangerous cross by KC and somehow no one gets a foot on it in front of Keller. That was a near goal.
18 -- Jaqua tips to Sturgis who finds Zakuani and the shot is wide off side of net. Zakuani is playing very well.
22 -- Good passing by Montero and King to Nyassi but he's offside.
23 -- Abe Thompson with the header on Keller wide. Good chance for KC.
30 -- Jaqua and ref are having a conversation.
31 -- Nyassi dribbled too long there as it set up nicely, but he kept the ball and let the defense get set.
33-- Nyassi with a great pass far up ahead to Montero right to left, don't know how he even saw Montero's hand up calling for the ball. But Fredy makes too many moves and doesn't get off a great shot.
42 -- Zakuani to Jaqua back to Zakuani with a run but can't take a shot. Zakuani is QUICK.
HALF 0-0
46 -- Nyassi breaks into the clear and gets a shot on goal, just wide left.
50 -- Zakuani taken down in the box on a run, no call from ref. Fans go nuts with boos. Ref is "letting them play." Zakuani has his hands out in shock.
53 -- Montero on the dribble, has good shot but it goes left and over the goal. Opportunity missed there.
Now Zakuani is making it look real easy. He's killing the right back.
58 -- Wahl with a header so close, than Ianni gets taken down and no call. The crowd is all over the ref. The fans just cheered when an announcement was made that the beer garden is open til the 75th minute.
Tonight's ref is Abiodun Okulaja.
71 -- Le Toux in for Seattle, Zakuani out.
Seattle's defense has been pretty solid all night. No overtime, please. I'm on deadline.
Vagenas and Levesque are warming up.
76 -- Yellow for S. Hirsig KC and the crowd with a mock cheer.
78 -- Here comes Mr. Open Cup. Levesque, in for Nyassi. Then a quick shot by KC is over the goal.
79 -- Montero with the yellow card.
85 -- Back and forth they go, no one getting close.
87 -- Montero slips, gets up, dribbles, shoots it wide.
89 -- Le Toux converts the PK after Montero draws it. King with a run, feeds Montero, Montero taken down on a tackle by keeper Hartman. 1-0 Seattle.
WIth 4 minutes of extra time, it's chippy. Hirsig just got a second yellow for a hard hit on Montero. Hirsig is ejected.
