Sounders FC 2, Portland Timbers 1 - the aftermath
Posted by Jose Romero
Sounders FC renewed its road game victory tradition, singing the team's version of "Jingle Bells" in the locker room at PGE Park.
Chorus: "Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun, it is to see, Seattle win away!"
I'm serious. They sang that.
Midifleder (and game winning goal scorer) Stephen King on the atmosphere tonight: "I've heard from some of the guys about the rivalry and how intense it is. I've never experienced it firsthand. It was crazy tonight. It was a great game. This is the way it should be when you go to stadiums with the fans that passionate. You couldn't really hear anything on the field, and that's what we want."
Next up: KC Wizards at Starfire, July 7, 7 p.m. Tickets on sale tomorrow.
"They're the only team that beat us at home, so we'd like to even that score," coach Sigi Schmid said. "I don't know if Alonso will be back in time for that game."
Brad Evans and Tyrone Marshall will not be back from the Gold Cup, but Freddie Ljungberg should be OK and Schmid hopes Steve Zakuani will be ready. Seattle doesn't play again until that match. But only five foreign players are eligible to play in Open Cup matches.
