Off to Dallas, but first, Sounders FC practice report

Posted by Jose Romero

Some news from today.

DEF Nathan Sturgis will not make the trip because of his hamstring injury, so there will indeed be two new starters on defense this week. Who those are is not known, but Patrick Ianni is a possibility. He's a versatile guy, like Sturgis, who can play MID or DEF.

Sturgis' situation improved this week but not to the point of him being able to play. He didn't practice all week.

Ben Dragavon had been called up to the team for this week due to an "extreme hardship," which allows a team to sign a goalkeeper if one its two is injured. Chris Eylander, who injured his right knee in March and then came back from it, now has a left knee injury and is unavailable for this week's game. Eylander, coach Sigi Schmid said, is a candidate to go on injured reserve.

Dragavon was called up by the Columbus Crew and was in uniform for the Crew April 25 and May 2. He played 61 minutes of Seattle's April 11 game with Kansas City after Kasey Keller was red-carded.

FWD Jarrod Smith is not practicing after getting injured in the team's reserve game against Seattle University. It's a left hamstring strain, according to team notes.

My flight leaves in less than 2 hours, I'll check in when I get settled. Looks like I will be missing some nice weather here. It seems to happen to me every time I go away.
