FRISCO, Texas — David Ferreira scored on a penalty kick for his third goal in four Major League Soccer matches and FC Dallas beat the Kansas City Wizards 1-0 Saturday night.

The Wizards have five losses and a draw in six MLS road matches this season.

Ferreira drew the foul in the 58th minute when he was taken down by Kansas City defender Roger Espinoza while trying to corral a pass from Jair Benitez.

Ferreira drilled the ball into the upper-right corner as Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen dove the other way.

After the goal, though, momentum gradually seemed to shift toward the Wizards, and Kansas City almost tied the score on successive chances by Graham Zusi.

Less than a full minute after entering in the 71st minute, Zusi found himself alone in the area facing Dallas keeper Kevin Hartman, who got his hands on the resulting shot.

Moments later, Zusi's free kick from just beyond the left corner of the penalty area deflected off the foot of Dallas defender Daniel Hernandez in front, forcing Hartman to make a leaping save near the left post.

Other MLS matches

At Crew 2, Fire 1

Jason Garey and Adam Moffat scored goals for Columbus late in the first half, on either side of Frankie Hejduk's own goal, and the Crew beat Chicago.

Columbus took over the lead in the Eastern Conference with 27 points. Chicago lost for the first time in six MLS matches.

Moffat opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after poking the ball away from keeper Andrew Dykstra for a tap-in goal.

Hejduk headed Baggio Husidic's cross into his own net a minute later.

Garey's diving header in the second minute of first-half stoppage time put the Crew back on top.

Chivas USA snapped a six-match losing streak against MLS opponents.

The Union is winless in three of its past four games.

Danny Mwanga gave the Union a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a 7-yard shot.

D.C. United 1,

at Earthquakes 1

Rookie Andy Najar scored in the 54th minute, volleying home a cross from Stephen King at the far post for his second career MLS goal. The 17-year-old joined D.C. United from the team's academy before the season.

San Jose rookie Ike Opara put the Earthquakes ahead in the 16th minute, cleaning up a deflection after San Jose's Ramiro Corrales and D.C. United's Juan Manuel Pena battled for a corner.
