MLS Cup History | D.C. United back on top in '99 after blanking L.A. Galaxy
Seattle will host the 14th MLS Cup, Nov. 22 at Qwest Field. This is the fourth in a series of stories about the first 13 MLS Cups.
Nov. 21, 1999
Foxboro Stadium, Foxborough, Mass.
D.C. United 2, Los Angeles Galaxy 0
In a rematch of the first MLS Cup final, D.C. United returned to its familiar place atop the American soccer food chain with its second Cup final victory over the Galaxy in four years. D.C. made it three titles in four years as Jaime Moreno and Ben Olsen scored first-half goals.
D.C. didn't allow a shot on goal in the first half, and the Galaxy lost team captain and central defender Robin Fraser to a collarbone injury just five minutes into the match.
Olsen was voted Most Valuable Player before 44,910 in 63-degree, sunny weather.
