Freddie Ljungberg is in London for the weekend, rumored to be meeting with representatives of Arsenal, one of his former English Premier League clubs.
The rumors come from reports in Sweden, Ljungberg's native country. Sounders FC had no comment on the speculation, but did confirm that Ljungberg traveled to England after the team's Open Cup victory on Wednesday.
The Sounders don't play again until Sept. 12.
The reports say Ljungberg would be loaned out to an English Premier League club this winter after the MLS season ends, then return to play for the Sounders next year. Ljungberg is under contract with the Sounders through the 2010 season.
Sounders FC general manager Adrian Hanauer said he has not been contacted by Arsenal or any other team recently to discuss Ljungberg.
Ljungberg has stated that he enjoys Seattle and anticipates playing out both years of his deal here.
A deal for Ljungberg to play for Arsenal, or any Premier League club, would be similar to the arrangement David Beckham has to play for AC Milan.
Beckham, who plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy, joined AC Milan in January, after the 2008 MLS season. Beckham did not return to the Galaxy in March as originally planned, but worked out a deal and returned to the Galaxy in July. He will reportedly return to AC Milan in January.
