Danny Cepero became the first goalkeeper to score in a Major League Soccer game, and Juan Pablo Angel had two goals to lead the New York Red Bulls to a 3-1 win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night.
Cepero, who has been with New York (10-10-9) for two seasons but never played, got the start because regular goalie Jon Conway was suspended for 10 games for using a banned substance. Red Bulls defender Jeff Parke also was suspended.
Cepero's goal came when he took a direct kick from his own 25-yard line in the 83rd minute. The ball bounced high about 20 yards in front of the goal and went in over the head of Columbus goalie Andy Gruenebaum.
Cepero also made two saves, including a spectacular diving stop in the final minute of the first half that kept the game scoreless.
Angel gave New York a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute, when he made a brilliant sliding maneuver between two Crew defenders to get to the ball and beat Gruenebaum.
The Crew (16-7-6) tied the game in the 62nd minute, when Steven Lenhart headed home a direct free kick attempt from Guillermo Barros Schelotto, but Angel put the Red Bulls ahead for good in the 75th, when he secured a pass from Seth Stammler with his chest, then put the ball to his right foot and beat Gruenebaum for his 13th goal.
Conway and Parke tested positive for androstatriendione and boldenone metabolites after purchasing and using an over-the-counter nutritional supplement from a vitamin store that is part of a national chain, the league said. They are the first MLS players to be suspended for using performance-enhancing drugs.

• Chelsea won 5-0 at Middlesbrough and Liverpool twice came from behind to edge Wigan 3-2 to keep the Blues and Reds neck and neck at the top of the Premier League title race.
Wayne Rooney took his scoring streak to eight in six games — including four in two for England — and Manchester United brushed aside West Bromwich Albion 4-0 to move up to fourth with 14 points.
• Promoted Hoffenheim moved atop the Bundesliga with a comeback 5-2 win over 10-man Hannover, and Bayern Munich needed a late goal to clinch its first victory in four games.
• Scott Brown and Glenn Loovens gave Celtic a 2-1 victory at Inverness to open a three-point lead over Rangers in the Scottish league title race.
