MONTREAL — The Seattle Sounders' season came to an end Sunday afternoon, with a 3-1 loss to Montreal in the quarterfinals of the United Soccer Leagues First Division playoffs giving the Impact a 4-3 series victory in aggregate scoring.

Seattle entered the game with a one-goal lead after Friday's 2-1 victory at Starfire Sports Complex, needing a win or tie to advance to the semifinals.

After Montreal went ahead 1-0 in the 56th minute on David Testo's goal, Roger Levesque scored three minutes later to knot things up. Levesque's seventh playoff tally is a franchise record.

The Impact led 2-1 when the Sounders were awarded a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar sent the shot past Montreal goalkeeper Matt Jordan, but the score was called off because a Sounders player had stepped into the box as the kick was being taken.

On the re-kick, Cuellar hit the post.

Antonio Ribeiro scored in extra time to give the Impact the series-winning goal.

The loss marked the end of the USL era for the Sounders. Next year, the Seattle Sounders FC will debut as the franchise in Major League Soccer.
