TUKWILA — Red-hot Seattle forward Sebastien Le Toux made sure the Sounders stayed a front-burner team in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
After reaching the semifinals a year ago, Seattle has passed its first two tests of 2008 and looks poised for another run.
The French-born forward scored four goals all in succession as the Sounders used a strong first half to knock out Hollywood United 6-0 on Tuesday night in the second round of the 95th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Starfire Sports & Entertainment Complex.
The Sounders (7-2-6 overall) will host Chivas USA of Major League Soccer on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Starfire in the third round.
Le Toux became the first Sounder to score four goals in a match since Mark Baena went for a quadruple in a 10-0 win over the California Jaguars on June 19, 1998.
Le Toux increased his team-best goal total to 11 as Seattle outshot Hollywood 19-8.
"That's my first time scoring four goals," Le Toux said. "I'm happy, but I missed some. I could've scored more."
Los Angeles' Hollywood United (17-2-2), a member of the U.S. Amateur Soccer Association and regular-season champion of the Coast Soccer League, beat the Portland Timbers 3-2 in the first round.
"We were very careful about this team," Le Toux said. "We knew they had former MLS players and that they had good players. This game did a lot of good for our confidence."
Zach Scott headed home a corner kick from Leighton O'Brien at the near post in the third minute as Seattle opened a 1-0 lead.
Josh Gardner soon made it 2-0 with a 15th-minute blast from 24 yards out.
Le Toux made it 3-0 in the 22nd minute. His second goal came in the 28th minute and pushed the Sounders' lead to 4-0. Le Toux added his third goal on a scrum in front of the net in the 61st minute to make it 5-0.
