PHOENIX — Kenji Treschuk scored the lone goal in the 118th minute Tuesday night as the Seattle Sounders beat the Arizona Sahuaros 1-0 in a first-round game of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Phoenix.
With the overtime victory at Grand Canyon University, the Sounders advance to face Hollywood United on June 24. Hollywood beat Portland, 3-2.
Round two winners earn dates with MLS teams. Round 1 includes 32 teams from various soccer leagues. Last year, the Sounders advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.
Treschuk, a 25-year-old defender, has one other goal this season.
The Sounders (4-2-5) host Juventus Primavera on Thursday night at Starfire Sports in Tukwila.
