LONDON — Portsmouth won its first title in 69 years by beating Cardiff 1-0 in the FA Cup final Saturday at Wembley Stadium.
Nwankwo Kanu pounced on a blunder by Cardiff goalkeeper Peter Enckelman to tap in the winner from 2 yards in the 37th minute, giving Harry Redknapp his first major trophy in 25 years of managing.
The victory also gave Portsmouth a place in next season's UEFA Cup, the first time the team has qualified for European play.
Portsmouth last won the FA Cup — the world's oldest domestic-cup competition — in 1939. Cardiff's lone triumph was in 1927. Cardiff, which plays in the division below the English Premier League, was trying to become the first lower-league team since 1980 to win the FA Cup.

At Toronto FC 0, Crew 0
Both teams kept unbeaten streaks alive in a rather dull match enlivened afterward by Toronto coach John Carver's comments. Columbus hasn't lost in six games and Toronto is unbeaten in five.
Carver singled out the Crew's Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who spent the afternoon theatrically tumbling to the ground and complaining to officials.
Adding to Carver's ire, the 43-year-old rookie coach had been singled out in a DVD sent to game officials for his behavior at Toronto's previous home game.
"Rightly so, possibly," Carver said. "But today we saw a fellow professional, diving all over the park, and is anything going to be done about that? I don't know."
Dynamo 2, at Fire 1
Bobby Boswell scored in the 82nd minute to give Houston a victory over Chicago.
