PORTLAND — Japanese striker Takayuki Suzuki recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Portland Timbers to a 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders in front of 9,894 at PGE Park on Saturday night.
With the win, the Timbers extended their unbeaten regular-season streak at home to 17 games and maintained their early season lead in the USL First Division.
Saturday's match also marked the Timbers' (3-0-0) first victory over Seattle (0-1-1) since 2006.
Suzuki scored his first goal in the sixth minute to give Portland an early 1-0 lead.
Suzuki then fed midfielder Miguel Guante for his first professional goal in the 76th minute.
Timbers goalkeeper Ray Burse recorded six saves to collect his second shutout of the season, including one in the 84th minute on a one-on-one attempt by Seattle forward Sebastien LeToux at the top of the box.
