EDMONTON — The Sounders defeated Edmonton 2-1 last night in an A-League game.

The Sounders improved to 9-10-4 with 31 points.

No other details were available at press time.

Sounders defender/midfielder Scott Jenkins is expected to play his 200th career match this week. He has played in 199. The eight-year veteran is the Sounders' all-time leader in games and minutes played, logging over 15,000 minutes on the field.

A local talent, Jenkins was signed by the Sounders after his collegiate career at the University of Washington in 1997. Jenkins has helped the Sounders reach the playoffs in six of his seven seasons in Seattle.

"Scott Jenkins has become one of those veterans every team needs," said Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer. "He constantly leads by example."

Jenkins was selected to the A-League Team of the Week earlier this season for his solid play during a road trip through Calgary and Edmonton. In 2001, Jenkins was voted as the Sounders' defender of the year.

"We've been known for our defense the past few seasons in large part to Jenkins," said Schmetzer. "The combination of his effort and knowledge of the game has been beneficial to our team. He consistently is in the right place at the right time."
