Mexico's national soccer team to play in Seattle
Seattle Times staff reporter
Mexico's men's national soccer team has scheduled a friendly in Seattle for April 16, according to their upcoming game schedule.
The schedule lists China as the opponent. More details, including location (presumably Qwest Field), time, ticket availability and prices and which players will be on the travel roster are yet to be announced. An official announcement of the game is expected soon.
Seattle's new Major League Soccer team is involved in organizing the game, as is MLS.
Mexico, the U.S. national team's main rival in the CONCACAF soccer region, has played its past two games on American soil, in Houston and Los Angeles. The team has a huge following in the United States.
"El Tri," as the team is called (short for "tricolores," Spanish for tricolors, as Mexico's are red, white and green) has a friendly scheduled for London on March 26 against Ghana. It has played three of its previous four national-team games in the U.S., against Brazil, Guatemala and the U.S., and has lost two and tied one.
