Henderson named technical director for Seattle's MLS team

Seattle Times staff reporter

Chris Henderson, an 11-year veteran of Major League Soccer, has been hired as technical director of Seattle MLS franchise, the team announced today.

Henderson, 37, is an Everett native who played soccer at Cascade High School before moving on to UCLA and the professional ranks. He is an original MLS player, signing with the Colorado Rapids for the league's inaugural season, 1996.

Henderson will assist MLS Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer in all areas of soccer operations, including scouting, player management, coaching decisions and the youth development system.

Henderson retired from playing in 2006 and spent the 2007 season as an assistant coach for the Kansas City Wizards, another of his former MLS clubs. He has also played for the Miami Fusion (now defunct), Columbus Crew and New York Red Bulls of the MLS, as well as stints in Germany and Norway.

He played professionally for 15 years.
