Sounders earn draw on Howes' free kick

BURNABY, B.C. — A free-kick goal in the 90th minute from Greg Howes gave the Seattle Sounders a 2-2 United Soccer Leagues draw against Vancouver Friday night.

Roger Levesque put the Sounders ahead in the 16th minute before the Whitecaps scored two unanswered goals, the second coming from one of their four new players this week, Alan Marcina.

The Sounders (9-5-5, 32 points) weathered six minutes of early pressure before Levesque connected with a long throw-in from Kenji Treschuk. Levesque headed his third goal in four matches into the back of the Vancouver net for a 1-0 lead.

Tony Donatelli tied it for Vancouver (7-6-7, 28 points) in the 42nd minute with a low shot that beat goalkeeper Chris Eylander.

Marcina put the Whitecaps ahead 2-1 in the 85th minute with a tight angle shot from the right side.
