VAL GARDENA, Italy — Manuel Osborne-Paradis won a World Cup downhill event Saturday to give the injury-weakened Canadian team a boost.

Osborne-Paradis won in 2 minutes, 1.27 seconds.

Meanwhile, American Bode Miller's conditioning is strong and his sprained ankle is getting better. The two-time overall World Cup champion from Franconia, N.H., finished ninth. His performance was affected by a strong headwind that whipped up as he and the other contenders took the course.

Mario Scheiber of Austria was second, 0.13 seconds behind. Ambrosi Hoffmann of Switzerland and Johan Clarey of France shared third, 0.25 seconds behind the winner.

Osborne-Paradis, Hoffmann and Clarey each started before the wind shift.

"Take nothing away from the guys in the lead because they skied well," Miller said.

Scott Macartney of Kirkland was 23rd.

Notes

• American Lindsey Vonn's quest for a third consecutive downhill victory has been put on hold after bad weather forced organizers to scrap a World Cup race in Val d'Isere, France.

A new date has yet to be set for the race, which is likely to be moved to another venue.

Andre Lange of Germany won the two-man bobsled World Cup race on his home track in Altenberg, while the U.S. team of Steven Holcomb and Justin Olsen avoided injury when their sled crashed.

"We're fine, but when the sled flips upside down it can be intimidating," Holcomb said.

Americans Shauna Rohbock and Michelle Rzepka took third in the women's two-man race won by Kallie Humphries and Heather Moyse of Canada. Bree Schaaf of Bremerton and Emily Azevedo settled for 13th place.
