WENATCHEE — Those ski-day wishes made on Thanksgiving turkey wishbones will come true Friday as Mission Ridge plans to open for the first tracks of the season.
There will be plenty of snow cover with a 14-inch natural and yet-to-be-measured man-made base at the summit of the ski resort, said Marketing Director Jerri Barkley.
Mission Ridge will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays through Sundays until Dec. 17, when daily holiday operations begin. For now, Chair 1 and the Liberator Express will be operating, allowing access to Tumwater, Sunspot and Mimi runs. "We'll have terrain park features set up if we can," Barkley said.
Barkley noted that snow-making abilities cover only 66 acres of the 2,000 total acre resort. Lift tickets will be discounted to reflect the available terrain. Tickets for adults will be $39 instead of $50. Tickets for youth and seniors will also be less, ranging from $20 to $34.
She said snow-making is ongoing as temperatures allow. "We have to have it less than 28 to make snow."
Barkley expects a good opening weekend with a couple thousand visitors.
Also drawing skiers to the resort, Barkley said, will be a 6 p.m. Saturday showing of the Teton Gravity Research ski action film "Re: Session" and post-movie sounds of reggae fusion musician Adrian Xavier, of Seattle. Cost of that event, held at the lodge, is $12.
