Granite Falls
Granite Falls Middle School Assistant Principal Dave Bianchini has been named the Washington State Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year. Bianchini will be honored at the Association of Washington School Principals conference in October.
The award puts him in the running for the National Assistant Principal of the Year award.
Bianchini, 43, is starting his fifth year as assistant principal.
In nominating him, colleagues praised his respectful treatment of teachers and students, his caring attitude and open communication style.
"He has earned respect from students and support from parents, and that's not easy with the tough job of handling student discipline," said Granite Falls Middle School Principal Dick Panagos.
Lake Stevens
School dedication set for Monday
The new mid high school in the Lake Stevens School District will be dedicated at 5 p.m. Monday. The public is invited to the ceremony for Cavelero Mid High School and the open house that will follow.
Cavelero opened to 1,200 eighth- and ninth-grade students this fall. The school will become a second district high school as the population in the Lake Stevens area grows. Construction of the school was made possible by the passage of a $65.5 million bond measure in 2005.
The dedication will include performances by the school band and remarks by district and community leaders.
The school is at 8220 24th St, S.E., Everett.
