The Snohomish County Council is considering regulating motorized scooters, making it the latest of several local government agencies to do so.

If such a measure is adopted, Snohomish County would be the first in the state to pass a countywide measure restricting use.

Restrictions on the popular vehicles already exist in Brier, Everett, Snohomish, Stanwood, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Lake Stevens. Edmonds also is considering restrictions.

Snohomish County Councilman Jeff Sax, R-Snohomish, proposed restrictions in Snohomish County after residents complained. The draft ordinance requires riders to be at least 16 years old and wear a helmet and bars scooters from county property, including parks and roads with speed limits above 25 mph.

The council will consider the measure at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at its Law & Justice Committee meeting in the Snohomish County Council Chambers on the sixth floor of the county Administration Building, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
