The Seattle Times

Let's just say that Ozzie Guillen isn't a big fan of sports-talk radio.

"I don't give a bleep about talk shows," the White Sox manager told the Chicago Tribune. "Those talk shows in Chicago, they're lucky I'm here, because they'd be selling cheeseburgers and hot dogs somewhere."

He's going long

Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice, 47, missed the cut in his Nationwide Tour debut in Hayward, Calif., after shooting rounds of 83 and 76.

His putting needs work, veteran duffers say, but his tee shots ran very impressive hook and fade patterns.

Catching a few Z's

Jeff Bzdelik, the new basketball coach at Wake Forest, calls it his "dream job."

Try telling that to local headline writers who finally got used to "Krzyzewski."

Down and Dirty Dept.

According to a recent survey, Democrats tend to be fans of the NBA, tennis and WWE Wrestling, while Republicans are more into professional golf, college football and NASCAR.

"I have no idea what any of this means," wrote Len Berman of ThatsSports.com, "but it appears, at least in Washington, both parties are equally into mud wrestling."

He's not complaining

"Andy Roddick won the Sony tennis tournament in Key Biscayne last Sunday and is married to swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker," wrote Greg Cote of the Miami Herald. "Hey, who said life was fair?"

Get a whiff of this

Diamondbacks fans might grumble that Mark Reynolds — with 223 strikeouts, 76 walks and five times hit by pitches — didn't even put the ball in play in 304 of his 662 plate appearances last season, but no such complaints from the accounting department.

As blogger Chad Piscasner noted, "At least he's easy on the baseballs."

Talko time

• Twins second baseman Orlando Hudson, to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, on facing Royals fireballer Zack Greinke and Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield back-to-back: "On one guy (Wakefield), you close your eyes and swing. The other guy's got an invisible slider."

• Ex-USC receiver Mike Williams, to AP, on trying out and making the Seahawks' roster after being out of the NFL for two years: "It's like riding a bike — except the bike is a little rusty right now."

• Times reader Bill Littlejohn, on what the Houston Astros had in common with Larry King and Elizabeth Taylor: "At one point in April, they were all 0 for 8."

• Reggie Hayes of the Fort Wayne (Ind.) News-Sentinel, on the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs boasting the biggest payrolls in baseball: "Spending obviously works. All three of those teams have won championships in the last 102 years."

Missing a bank shot

Derrick Coleman owes creditors $4.7 million and has filed for bankruptcy, the Wall Street Journal reported — this despite an NBA career that earned him a whopping $87 million.

Now that's what's known as taking it to the hole.
